50th Anniversary of Tarzana Treatment Centers
A historic year for Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC), 2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of the nonprofit integrated healthcare organization that specializes in helping underserved populations. As a Joint Commission-accredited provider of behavioral healthcare services, TTC offers high-quality, cost-effective substance use disorder and mental health treatment to adults and youth.
Since our founding in 1972, TTC has given access to compassionate, professional healthcare services to people most in need of help, support, and recognition. As a community-based organization that operates a psychiatric hospital, residential and outpatient alcohol and drug treatment centers, and family medical clinics, each of TTC’s facilities is licensed and certified by the State of California and the County of Los Angeles. TTC proudly services our local communities. For immediate support, please call (866) 394-2969.
Moreover, with locations in Tarzana, Long Beach, Northridge, Woodland Hills, Reseda, Lancaster, and Palmdale, Tarzana Treatment Centers has grown into a major nonprofit healthcare organization with over 1250 employees on staff.
Tarzana Treatment Centers and The Joint Commission
TTC was first accredited by the Joint Commission under their behavioral health standards in 1987. Focusing on high standards of care and professionalism as an organization, we have maintained this accreditation. Over the years, TTC has added Joint Commission accreditation as a hospital, for its acute inpatient psychiatric hospital.
Moreover, as a forerunner in battling the current national opioid crisis, TTC also added two Joint Commission accreditations. Under the Opiate Treatment Program certification, these accreditations include both detoxification and maintenance programs.
Tarzana Treatment Centers is a compassionate nonprofit healthcare organization. Indeed, we believe every human being deserves whole-person healthcare. In recognition of our 50th Anniversary, we celebrate our integrated programs of primary medical and behavioral healthcare services.
Therefore, we have been focused for over half a century on achieving that goal of providing high-quality services to underserved communities and populations.
The Growth of Tarzana Treatment Centers
Combining innovation with a long-term vision, TTC expanded over time beyond the typical alcohol and drug treatment services. Today, we champion whole-person care by offering access to medical care, mental health, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for mental health and substance use disorders.
Moreover, TTC also now provides bridge housing, case management, and HIV/AIDS services. Indeed, the ongoing goal of the nonprofit’s growth has been to form an integrated delivery system, setting the standard that other organizations emulate.
Throughout our history, TTC has maintained focus on two primary goals: improving the quality of care provided to patients and expanding the number of patients who receive that care. Therefore, the pursuit of these goals requires the removal of barriers to accessing services. Concurrently, TTC has continued to expand the services being offered to deliver comprehensive care to more people in need.
Led in 2022 by President and Chief Executive Officer Albert J. Senella and Dr. José C. Salazar, the Director of Program Development, organizational leadership remain focused on a commitment to high-quality healthcare services. Hence, this focus also emphasizes widespread community access, patient advocacy, and treatment innovation.
Indeed, the focus on these priorities has made TTC one of California’s largest providers of Integrated Behavioral Healthcare services.
Ten Examples of TTC on the Forefront of Healthcare Services:
- The treatment of Co-Occurring Disorders in both substance use disorder programs and mental health service offerings.
- Groundbreaking SUD and MH research in conjunction with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Clinical Trials Network (CTN). In many studies, UCLA is TTC’s research partner.
- Starting in 1980 the provision of quality HIV/AIDs treatment options from the first diagnosis onward. Therefore, these services include wrap-around services such as case management and ongoing care.
- Continually expanding service offerings to meet the needs of the community. Such expansions include a psychiatric hospital and intensive outpatient services (IOP) for SUD and MH.
- In 1990, TTC’s Long Beach location opened as one of the first residential treatment programs for women. Moreover, many of these women have young children in residence with them.
- The first two of what later become six TTC Primary Care medical clinics open in 1995.
- In 1998, TTC began operating youth services for adolescents for substance youth disorders and mental health conditions. Hence, TTC opens a 40-bed residential program in Lancaster. In addition, outpatient services expand at other locations.
- From Methadone and Vivitrol to Suboxone and Naltrexone, TTC has been an early adopter of Medications for Addiction Treatment. Hence, our MAT Services also include training in the delivery of Naloxone, the opioid antagonist, to reverse overdoses in emergencies.
- In 2010, long before the COVID-19 pandemic, TTC incorporated Telehealth options into the delivery of psychiatric services. Moreover, Telehealth services are also used for consulting services in our primary care clinic.
- In 2020, TTC launched Tarzana Treatment Centers College for SUD Certification and more. Indeed, TTCC offers exemplary training for people, particularly from underserved communities, for SUD counseling, patient advocacy, and culturally sensitive services.
