Even Spider-Man Struggles with Mental Health Challenges
The knowledge that even Spider-Man struggles could help a lot of kids in today’s world. Indeed, if your child struggles with mental health issues and substance abuse, they are not alone. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Tom Holland reveals that even Spider-Man struggles.
As a staple of the Marvel Universe, Tom Holland is a celebrated performer, starring as Spider-Man in the Spider-Man series with girlfriend Zendaya and the epic Avengers movies. Although his life seems golden on the outside, even Spider-Man struggles on the inside. While discussing his upcoming Apple TV+ thriller, The Crowded Room, Holland explains how playing the troubled Danny, a mini-series inspired by the novel The Minds of Billy Milligan, made him take a deeper look at his mental health challenges.
Tom Holland Says Even Spider-Man Struggles
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Holland explains, “I’m no stranger to the physical aspects of the job doing the whole action-movie thing. But the mental aspect, it really beat me up, and it took a long time for me to recover afterward, to sort of get back to reality.” Playing a superhero does not mean you are a superhero. Moreover, superheroes are fictional. Still, a human being, Tom Holland faces challenges. Hence, the actor is now clean and sober for over a year.
By embracing recovery, the Spider-Man: No Way Home actor found relief from the pressures of being a superstar. After speaking with psychiatrists to gain insight into the character’s headspace, Holland gained greater insight into his mental health. As a provider of youth mental health services, Tarzana Treatment Centers congratulates Holland on his brave choice. By going public about his struggles and having the strength to address them, he can help so many people.
It is okay if even Spider-Man struggles. It is not okay if he ignores those struggles, repressing them until they implode into a mental health crisis.
Even Spider-Man Struggles with Social Media Pressures
In August 2022, Tom Holland revealed that social media pressures had become detrimental to his mental health. He announces a break from social media. Hence, the actor explains that he is tired of the constant onslaught of opinions online. Tom Holland explains, “I get caught up, and I spiral when I read things about me online… There is an awful stigma against mental health, and I know that asking for help and seeking help isn’t something that we should be ashamed of, but it is something that is much easier said than done.”
Indeed, social media pressures are harming young people nationwide. Once again, TTC honors Tom Holland for his honesty and courage.
