TTC Springs into Recovery at USS Iowa Veterans Event
At the Spring into Recovery Event aboard the Battleship, USS Iowa on April 8th, Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) demonstrates an ongoing commitment to United States veterans. Sponsored by the Veteran Peer Access Network (VPAN), the USS Iowa event included tables for recovery organizations, a lunch catered by In-N-Out Burger, and speakers throughout the day. Led by veterans for veterans, VPAN helps veterans in need navigate often complicated systems so that they receive the services they deserve.
With a crackerjack team assembled by Monica Davoodpour, TTC’s Director of Business Development, Tarzana focuses on raising awareness. By reaching out to veterans and their families, TTC illuminates the accessible recovery options in Southern California. Hence, the USS Iowa event is a perfect example of an opportunity to help those in need. After all, there is a long history of TTC helping veterans and their families recover.

Beneath its own canopy, Tarzana Treatment Center’s presentation table was staffed all day long from early morning to closing time. Indeed, the table was overflowing with information and promotional items like travel mugs, pens, and sticky notes, TTC’s offerings were a central focus throughout the day. Monica Davoodpour engaged with presenters and attendees. Meanwhile, Long Beach Intake Specialist Elizabeth Gastelum managed the table. Therefore, a positive representation of TTC was on display.
Among a bevy of speakers from across the recovery spectrum, Melina Adair, a Counselor at Long Beach, represented TTC on the podium. Supported by Long Beach Clinical Supervisor Cori Charm, Ph.D., LMFT, Melina Adair took the stage and gave one of the best talks of the day. As a member of the US Army Reserve who received her honorable discharge in 2001, Adair made achieving sobriety and pursuing an education her post-service priorities.
Melina Adair Shares Her Story Aboard the USS Iowa
Melina Adair is proud to have attained a Master of Arts in Social Work in 2019. In addition, she also reveals the struggles she went through after leaving the army. After finding God in a little white pill, her struggles with prescription painkillers and alcohol almost ended in tragedy. However, by accepting the reality of her addiction, she was able to stop fighting. Indeed, Adair inspired many in the audience with her tale of finally finding a way to let go.
As Melina Adair expressed on the USS Iowa, “I was meant to share my story. That’s why I survived. Today, I am passionate about helping my fellow addicts and alcoholics. I am here with you. The message I want you to hear is simple and clear: You are not alone.”
USS Iowa Event = Positive Step in the Battle for Recovery
Indeed, too many veterans return to America with the burden of post-traumatic stress syndrome, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders. Hence, providing help is a priority. Thus, VPAN’s Spring into Recovery gathering aboard the USS Iowa is a meaningful event. Moreover, Tarzana Treatment Centers always is ready to take part in such constructive gatherings.
