At Tarzana Treatment Centers, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Mental Health (MH) provides daily support in a positive community, helping patients along their healing journey. IOP balances individual, one-on-one therapy with process groups and group therapy.
The Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program teaches patients how to manage thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Tailored to specific needs, IOP Services treats each patient as a partner in their mental health care.
The Structure of the MH Intensive Outpatient Program
With the guidance of TTC’s experienced staff of mental health professionals, patients examine their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and learn new skills and ways of coping, with the aim of moving them towards wellness and positive outcomes. The TTC mental health IOP program is three hours a day, three times a week.
IOP is less restrictive than both Inpatient Psychiatric Stabilization and the Partial Hospitalization Program. Indeed, these are both higher levels of care for more severe cases of mental health conditions. Unlike the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), IOP Services are not available every day of the week.
The Daily MH Intensive Outpatient Program
At Tarzana Treatment Centers, each day in IOP revolves around three main groups:
First, there is a Check-In Group each morning which a trained clinician facilitates. In this first group of the day, questions encourage each patient to discuss progress or changes since the last meeting and examine changes in mood and other symptoms and any potential new challenges.
Second, a Skill Building Group in the early afternoon utilizes various evidence-based practices such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing. The goal is to reduce self-destructive behaviors while learning more adaptive ways to manage painful emotions.
Finally, the third IOP group of each day is a Process Group that empowers patients to discuss current challenges and struggles. Moreover, patients give support and feedback to fellow IOP members. During this feedback time, there is a secondary focus on improving troublesome interpersonal patterns by being kind and open. Thus, patients both receive and provide feedback.
