LAPD Supplied with Naloxone Doses
There are several avenues being taken to reverse the rising trend of opioid overdose deaths. One of them is to stop an overdose in its tracks with Naloxone so the victim doesn’t expire. The medication has been used for quite a few years and was recently made more widely available to the public.
An article in the LA Times shares how the LAPD is increasing the supply of Narcan to officers because they are often present during these medical emergencies.

While law enforcement often responds to medical emergencies, they previously had few tools or training to treat overdose patients. The Los Angeles Fire Department worked with the LAPD to provide 90-minute training sessions for officers.
Firefighters administer more Narcan because they handle medical calls, but LAPD officers will no longer have to stand by helplessly when they encounter an overdose victim, Choi said.
