MAT Services, Inpatient Detox, Ambulatory Detoxification
Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) champions the use of Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT). MAT services are integrated into TTC’s inpatient medical detox, residential rehab, and outpatient ambulatory detoxification levels of care. Using FDA-approved medications and harm reduction, TTC combines the latest MAT updates with behavioral counseling to save lives!
Therefore, TTC recognizes the value of MAT as an effective treatment for Opioid Use Disorder and Alcohol Use Disorder. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the medications used in MAT services at TTC are reliable and safe when properly administered. Both Inpatient Medical Detox and Outpatient Ambulatory Detoxification work on various patients. Moreover, the MAT program is tailored to meet each patient’s needs. Hence, the treatment goal is to open the door to long-term recovery. For immediate help and to learn more about MAT services at TTC, please call (866) 394-2969.
Outpatient Ambulatory Detoxification + Medical Detox
Without question, Medications for Addiction Treatment Treatment (MAT) are a powerful treatment tool for those struggling with substance and alcohol misuse. However, both inpatient medical detox and outpatient ambulatory detoxification have yet to achieve the acceptance and adoption MAT Services deserve nationwide. That’s what Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) has long believed, put into practice, and is determined to prove with pioneering research under the leadership of its clinical director, Ken Bachrach, Ph.D.
A longtime advocate for MAT’s benefits, Ken Bachrach, Ph.D., has been a member of the senior leadership of TTC since 1987. Hence, Dr. Bachrach oversees TTC’s clinical services across the organization. Thus, starting in 2008, Dr. Bachrach and senior leadership chose to implement MAT healthcare solutions. Whether inpatient medical detox or outpatient ambulatory detoxification, Dr. Bachrach knows from experience that MAT Services work.
“There was so much education that we had to do early on,” Dr. Bachrach says. “Not just with patients but with staff, because everyone was wary of medication at that time. They didn’t understand medication in addiction treatment.”
Thus, TTC provides MAT services as part of our detox programs, including outpatient ambulatory detoxification and residential detox. Indeed, we specialize in opiate detoxification. We know Suboxone, Sublocade, Buprenorphine, Methadone, and Naltrexone are safe and effective treatments. Also, the Methadone maintenance programs and clinics at TTC help people avoid the dangers of relapse.
A pioneer in the use of Vivitrol, an injectable form of Naltrexone for the treatment of both opiates and alcohol, TTC is an expert in the drug’s application. In Naltrexone treatment, patients receive a single monthly injection to minimize cravings. Hence, the drug cancels the reward or “high” associated with the use of opiates or alcohol. Indeed, Tarzana Treatment Centers offers a wide array of MAT Services approved by SAMHSA and the FDA.
MAT Services at Tarzana Treatment Centers
MAT services include the following:
- Inpatient Medical Detox
- Outpatient Ambulatory Detoxification
- Opiate Treatment Program (OTP)
- Methadone Clinics located in Tarzana and Palmdale
- Outpatient MAT programs combined with SUD behavioral care
- Primary Care based MAT services
The MAT process includes assessment, medication management, individual and group counseling, urinary analysis, case management, and physician visits. However, it is important to note that patients receiving outpatient ambulatory detoxification through MAT services do not go it alone. Hence, they are strongly encouraged to participate in our Outpatient SUD services. A key part of the continuum of care, behavioral interventions, combined with MAT, results in a comprehensive recovery program. Thus, patients have easy access to other mental health and/or primary medical care services.
Beyond being a MAT advocate, Dr. Bachrach also participates in evidence-based MAT clinical trials with the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA). A recent landmark clinical trial compares the efficacy of two MAT drugs for OUD: Buprenorphine (Suboxone) and Naltrexone (Vivitrol). Both were found to treat opioid addiction effectively. Thus, Tarzana uses them in combination with its integrated approach to caring for its under-serviced populations. More studies are in the works. Indeed, TTC recently received funding for new MAT research under Dr. Bachrach that will focus on the long-term effectiveness of MAT to help prevent relapse.
“If you want to work here at Tarzana, you have to realize that we are going to do what the science says, and one of the things that science says is that MAT can increase the likelihood of recovery, prevent overdoses, and prevent death,” says Bachrach.
Customizing MAT Services for Every Tarzana Patient
TTC works closely with each patient to provide customized MAT approaches. The clinical team also works at learning why some patients may be reluctant to use MAT to improve their educational outreach. “People are often not ready to take medications for a number of reasons, including stigma, misinformation, or just ambivalence,” explains Dr. Bachrach.
Another defining TTC goal is to help educate primary care doctors. This process demonstrates to these medical professionals that MAT is a proven tool. Indeed, MAT services are often effective outside treatment centers to support ongoing, successful recovery. “We do think that [MAT] will be accepted throughout the addiction treatment community. And it really needs to be because this gives you another tool in your toolkit. It increases the likelihood of recovery, lowers the likelihood of overdoses and death, and has been shown to be highly effective,” explains Dr. Bachrach.
