National HIV Testing Day 2023 at Tarzana Treatment Centers
Every year, June 27marks National HIV Testing Day. By highlighting the importance of being tested, National HIV Testing Day helps to raise awareness nationwide. First observed on June 27, 1995, it provides a time when proactive steps are taken to save lives. Indeed, as a provider of HIV/AIDS services, Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) makes this day an annual milestone.
Beyond testing, the theme for 2023 is “Take the Test & Take the Next Step.” It emphasizes how knowledge of HIV status helps a person choose proactive options to stay healthy. Therefore, HIV testing becomes a pathway to engaging people in long-term healthcare. Regardless of a person’s test result, if they are testing, they most likely require further information and support. Hence, building awareness helps to save lives. For example, people who receive a negative test result can use HIV prevention tools such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), condoms, and other sexual health services.
Tarzana Treatment Centers and National HIV Testing Day
As a provider of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services, TTC actively engages our community. As stated above, a negative step is an opportunity to promote prevention techniques and raise awareness. At the same time, a positive HIV test result also means being proactive. Thus, people can take the next step by rapidly starting HIV Treatment (ART). The goal is to stay healthy and live a productive, happy life.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), educating people testing for HIV on self-care makes a lot of sense. Thus, positive priorities during and after the testing process are:
- Take Care of Your Body, Mind, and Sexual Health
- Prioritize the Values of Good Health and Well-Being
- Continue to Take Care of Other People in Your Community
- But Please Take Care of Yourself As Well: You Matter!
