Outpatient Treatment Services for Substance Use Disorders
In the substance use disorder program at Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC), Outpatient Treatment Services do not require overnight stays in a residential or medical facility. For a person struggling with substance use disorders (SUD), Outpatient Treatment Services are an effective and flexible recovery alternative. With a history of successful outcomes, the SUD Treatment Staff at TTC knows that Outpatient Treatment Services work in practice.
Although less intensive than Inpatient or Residential Treatment Services, the Outpatient Treatment options at TTC, including our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), offer a wide variety of therapeutic interventions. These interventions help build a lasting framework for staying clean and sober. Such a framework includes the development of relapse prevention tools to help a person find their path to long-term recovery.

Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Treatment
In TTC’s Outpatient Programs, patients receive SUD treatment services while still maintaining outside lives. Thus, services are offered early in the morning, in the late afternoon and early evening, and on the weekends. Random monitored urine testing is conducted throughout treatment or when there is reason to suspect substance use.
TTC provides both Outpatient (ASAM 1.0) and Intensive Outpatient Services (ASAM 2.1) for adults and youth. TTC Outpatient Services offer up to 9 hours of SUD services per week for adults and up to six hours of SUD services per week for youth. More comprehensive in scope with a greater time commitment, IOP Services extends these hours.
The Intensive Outpatient Program is a year-long program comprised of three-week treatment phases, followed by six months aftercare. During the intensive alcohol and drug treatment component, participants are involved in various group modalities and weekly individual counseling sessions. Both day and evening tracks are available to accommodate better each person’s work, school, or family schedule.
TTC also has a Partial Hospitalization Program for SUD Treatment. Click here to learn more.
Outpatient Treatment and MAT Services
Unlike many rehab facilities, TTC offers Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) in outpatient settings. MAT Services are available, specifically for opioid use disorders and alcohol use disorders. MAT Services can be a key to avoiding the pitfalls in early recovery. Fostering a successful withdrawal management process, MAT Services truly help when a person is willing to take an active part in SUD Outpatient Treatment Services. In most cases, whether a person needs MAT Services will be determined during the intake process.

The SUD Treatment Staff is committed to providing guidance and support in the Outpatient Treatment Programs. From a comprehensive initial assessment to individualized treatment planning, each patient is set up to succeed in the program. The program also includes ongoing weekly individual counseling and a variety of therapeutic recovery-oriented groups that employ the latest evidence-based treatment practices.
The Outpatient Treatment Programs help provide patients with an orientation and understanding of early recovery and the tools needed to lead a productive and happy life without alcohol and drugs.
Participants Build a Strong Base in the Program
- Understanding addiction
- Learning specific recovery skills
- Developing a drug-free support system, including 12-step meetings
- Working towards the resolution of personal issues and life problems
- Finding a new, and often spiritual, direction in life
Family support and education groups are also offered during the treatment process, both in-person and through modern telehealth modalities. Families and patients often work together with their counselors to develop aftercare planning. In addition, participants in the program meet with addiction specialists, counselors, mental health interns, psychologists, and other mental health personnel in both individual and group counseling sessions.
Positive Outcomes and Outpatient Treatment
The SUD Treatment Staff focuses on helping each person in the TTC program achieve their treatment goals. The staff makes it a priority to provide support, encouragement, and understanding. Outpatient Treatment Services help to build the necessary structure to allow people in the program to live life in recovery in the community.
Working with a counselor, each participant focuses on treatment planning, case management, and discharge planning. Over time, a patient’s initial detox evolves into a strong groundwork for staying clean and sober. Outpatient Treatment Services at TTC are designed to lead to successful outcomes and long-term recovery.
