Recovery Month 2015 Events
Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) participates in Recovery Month events every year, and this year it comes with a big announcement about Overdose Prevention.
Why We Do It:
The goal of Recovery Month is to make the public aware of the value that recovering individuals bring to society, and to celebrate what recovery means to individuals and their loved ones. It is a month-long forum that allows us to show how alcoholism and addiction are being treated, and how it helps the community.
We will host several in-house celebrations for our residents, including a trip to the beach and a barbecue, and we will attend some public events that are meant to raise recovery awareness.
Overdose Prevention:
Prescription opioid and heroin overdoses have been on the rise for several years, and TTC has a new Naloxone program in place that has a goal of reducing overdose fatalities. TTC can now prescribe Naloxone to individuals that believe they or someone they know is at risk for a future overdose. Naloxone effectively reverses opioid overdoses and respiratory depression, greatly reducing the chances for a fatality. Get more information here.
L.A. County Proclamation:
Every year, TTC joins the L.A. County Board of Supervisors as they present a Proclamation for recovery at the Kenneth Hahn Administration Building at 500 W Temple St in Los Angeles. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 1st, from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm.
Dodger Game:
We also take an annual trip to Dodgers Stadium for their Celebrate Recovery Night, September 15th at 5:00 PM. It is a fun time for all, and we often have a representative taking the field before the game. The best part is that we get to show over 50,000 fans how great it is to be in recovery.
San Bernardino County:
This year, we’re excited to include San Bernardino County in our list of events. TTC provides detoxification and substance use treatment for residents in this largest county, by area, in California. We will be meeting members and leaders of county agencies at their Vendor Show on September 16th, and will participate in the Recovery Happens event on September 19th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Dance in Long Beach:
Our Long Beach Residential location is having a dance with hot dogs, chips, and soda. There’s no better way to celebrate recovery than to dance like nobody’s watching. This party will be held on September 26 from 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm. Click here for the flyer and more info.
October:
Another event that fits into the spirit of Recovery Month, but is in October, is NAMIWalks. NAMI is an organization that has a goal to raise public awareness about mental illness. Since many alcoholics and addicts in recovery also have a mental illness, the walk is a great way to get involved. TTC will be a part of NAMIWalks on October 3rd at Grand Park in Los Angeles.
We hope to see you at one or more of these events. Recovery Month brings a lot of excitement with it, which means even more events and activities will be added to our calendar as we get into September.
Happy Recovery Month!
