Recovery Month 2017
September is Recovery Month.
Tarzana Treatment Centers participates by holding internal celebrations and events. We would also like to take this opportunity to share some of the latest treatment news.
TTC has made the efforts to improve Substance Use treatment outcomes for almost a half-century, and we will continue doing so every month of the year. This month, September, is special every year because we get to celebrate the lives that have been saved and improved. Alcoholism and drug addiction effects those that suffer from the disease and anyone close to them. Family, friends, and co-workers all feel relief when someone recovers.
Did you know that Drug Medi-Cal now covers treatment from detox to residential and outpatient services, as well as Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)? That’s right! It is now possible for qualified individuals to recover from alcoholism and drug addiction at no cost to them. We also provide Case Management and Recovery Support, which are also covered, to help patients get back into a lifestyle that doesn’t include alcohol or other drugs.
We promote MAT because we’ve seen where a medication may be the only treatment that helps some patients achieve long-term recovery. Some of our patients will detox and immediately feel the sting of cravings the minute they walk out the door. All too often, counseling just isn’t enough when alcoholism or opioid addiction has a tight hold on someone. Methadone and Buprenorphine Maintenance or Vivitrol can help in different ways.
Maintenance uses replacement opioid medications to relieve cravings that drive heroin and prescription drug addicts to relapse. Vivitrol is an injection of non-opioid Naltrexone that reduces cravings for 30 days. Both work well to remove the distraction of cravings, clearing the way for patients to reach the road to recovery. The main difference between the two is that Maintenance can begin before or after detox and Vivitrol is taken only when opioids are out of the patient’s system. Both have been shown to improve outcomes.
To make these services available to the broader population that can benefit from them, we accept most forms of insurance, utilize public funding and grants, and cash payments are accepted on a sliding scale.
Recovery rarely comes easy for those suffering with alcoholism and drug addiction. That is why we work hard to improve their chances at recovery and celebrate those that have found a better way of living in recovery.
