Family and Youth Wellness Support
Family and Youth Wellness Support are at the heart of the clinical team’s humanistic approach. As part of our integrated healthcare model, Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) treats the whole person. Hence, Family and Youth Wellness Support are a priority. By ensuring that wellness comes first, we support our communities in Southern California, both in the context of treatment and beyond.
Indeed, Family and Youth Wellness Support helps ensure positive well-being. With a focus on developing balanced and healthy living skills. TTC offers Wellness Groups. From a scheduling standpoint, these groups take place on Mondays for youth ages 8-12 and Fridays for those ages 13-18.
Free of charge, these groups are part of our mental health programs in the San Fernando Valley. Beyond the fact that there is no cost for these groups, any parent or caregiver can bring youth to them.
Family and Youth Wellness Support + ACES Aware
As an initiative by the California Surgeon General, TTC embraces screening for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Indeed, building an awareness of ACEs is necessary as part of Family and Youth Wellness support. Did you know that adverse childhood experiences affect 34.8 million children (about twice the population of New York) across socioeconomic lines? Moreover, such childhood trauma puts these children at higher risk for health, behavioral, and learning problems.
As expressed on the ACES Aware home page, “The ACEs Aware initiative is a first-in-the-nation effort to screen patients for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to help improve and save lives. ACEs Aware strives to create a better world for our children, families, and communities by working together across sectors to prevent and address the impact of ACEs and toxic stress.”
In response, as an extension of family and youth wellness support, every patient taking part in a TTC treatment program is first screened for ACEs. TTC trains all treatment staff to administer this screening. By uncovering these adverse experiences, addressing such difficulties and past traumas becomes part of the recovery process. As a direct result, ACEs is now an inherent part of the TTC program, helping to promote sustainable youth wellness support.
TTC Mission = Family and Youth Wellness
Family Wellness Groups are excellent examples of the positive community support at the heart of the TTC mission. By providing family and youth wellness support, we help the greater community. Hence, a critical aspect of this approach is that recovery from substance use disorders and mental health conditions is a positive step in the right direction. Therefore, by emphasizing a glass half full perspective, the stage is set for future growth.
During Wellness Groups, TTC staff review different symptoms that lead to relapse stressors. Such stressors often play a negative role in a young person’s life. With each stressor discussed, a coping skill is presented that can help with that specific stressor. Indeed, the goal is to develop wellness tools. These wellness tools prevent stressors from leading to destructive behavioral patterns in many cases. Such tools are a key element in providing family and youth wellness support.
At Tarzana Treatment Centers, wellness is the flame that warms and fuels our interaction with young people and their families. The goal of TTC’s Family Wellness Groups is to promote a culture of well-being. Hence, we consistently encourage youth to make better lifestyle choices.
Family Wellness Groups = Happier and Healthier
Without question, youth can grow into healthier, happier, and more productive individuals by making such choices. As an integrated healthcare organization, TTC knows that good health and wellness go together. By offering a humanistic approach that promotes wellness, we help foster long-term recovery for youth and their families.
