Tarzana Treatment Centers Mark World Contraception Day on September 26th
The vision of World Contraception Day is “a world where every pregnancy is wanted.” On September 26th, Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) underlines the importance of World Contraception Day in a post-pandemic world. Indeed, too many children experience substance use disorders or mental health challenges firsthand or through family members. Thus, isn’t it time to raise the bar and ensure that every child is born into a safe home?
Thus, the mission of World Contraception Day is to spread the word and raise awareness about contraception and safe sex. Ultimately, the more significant aim is to ensure that each new generation makes informed decisions. Hopefully, a baseline can be met in the future where every pregnancy in the world is a planned one.
The Importance of Planning on World Contraception Day
As one of the largest nonprofit providers of integrated healthcare services in Southern California, Tarzana Treatment Centers focuses on helping underserved populations in need. Recently, as led by the Office of the California Surgeon General, TTC instituted the ACES Aware screening protocols. Indeed, this effort is a first-in-the-nation effort to screen patients for Adverse Childhood Events (ACES). Moreover, the screenings uncover childhood trauma in both children and adults.
Given the extent of the adverse childhood events uncovered, such pain underscores the critical importance of avoiding unwanted pregnancies. Started in 2007, World Contraception Day focuses on improving awareness of contraception. It celebrates the power of educational awareness. Thus, international efforts help young people make informed choices about sexual and reproductive issues. Hence, the hope is that better choices will be made moving forward.
Indeed, by emphasizing the planning of pregnancies, World Contraception Day helps to reduce unwanted pregnancies that often lead to unnecessary childhood trauma.
World Contraception Day and the Role of Contraception
Across the world, unintended pregnancies happen among people who are either not using any contraception or are using it inconsistently. According to the Guttmacher Institute, “Ninety-one percent of women in the United States feel that no one contraceptive method has all of the features that are important to them–with many citing side effects and impacts on sexual pleasure as reasons for their dissatisfaction… Developing new contraceptive methods and modifying existing ones could address these issues, thereby helping women and their partners feel more satisfied with their contraceptive choices and better equipped to prevent or space pregnancies.”
From clinical treatment services to scientific research, these efforts open the door to opportunities to help people avoid unwanted pregnancies. Tarzana Treatment Centers champions a world where every child is a treasured gift. Hence, every child born experiences love within a healthy family unit. Indeed, World Contraception Day underscores a further goal of reducing childhood trauma. Hopefully, it becomes the exception and not the rule.
