Technology in Alcohol and Drug Treatment
Substance Use treatment evolves as best practices are developed. Treatment outcomes improve as more is learned about the disease of addiction through studies, surveys, and when best practices are put into use. Complicated sets of data are compiled and analyzed, requiring advanced technology. What’s being learned is that technology can also play an important part in treatment itself.
Tarzana Treatment Centers is uniquely positioned to use technology for both purposes. We serve thousands of patients every year in our Substance Use programs, giving us access to real-time data that we use to provide better integrated care services. We know from our own experience and data how to target treatment to different populations, like women with children for example.
Technology also helps with care before, during, and after treatment. We send text appointment reminders so clients don’t miss their admission date. Our EHR tracks care from the moment clients arrive to the day they discharge, and then integrates any other services at TTC that they utilize. Substance Use patients with co-occurring mental health disorders can see someone using telehealth video conferencing.
Drug Medi-Cal now covers most Substance Use treatment services, including Medication Assisted Treatments (MAT) like Methadone and Buprenorphine Maintenance. This has made the use of technology an absolute must. TTC has chosen to use technology not only to keep up, but to improve services to those in Substance Use treatment.
