The Role of Recovery Services in Treatment and Beyond
Emphasizing the role of Recovery Services (RS), the Los Angeles County Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) increases the availability of RS. Effective as of Fall in 2022, SAPC allows access to Recovery Services for patients at all levels of SUD treatment care. Following this decision, Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) provides RS as part of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. The goal is to help patients transfer from treatment to sustainable recovery.
According to the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), “Recovery Services, as identified in the American Society for Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria, are made available to beneficiaries during or after substance use disorder (SUD) treatment.” Thus, the role of Recovery Services is to help to ensure successful treatment outcomes. RS provides patients with tools and resources. Giving patients a tool belt to help them post-treatment makes transitioning back to regular life much easier. In many cases, these transitions prove to be the most significant challenges.
The Role of Recovery Services for Patients Post-Treatment
As a firm proponent of the role of Recovery Services, TTC integrates RS into all levels of treatment.
- Empowering the Patient
- Preparing Proper Health Management
- Developing Self-Management Support Strategies
- Accessing Internal and Community Resources for Support
Effective in the Fall of 2022, SAPC now allows patients enrolled in all levels of care to be concurrently enrolled in Recovery Services, formerly Recovery Support Services. Hence, Tarzana Treatment Centers (TTC) provides RS as part of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment across all levels of care. In addition, the treatment staff at TTC appreciates that RS helps patients stay engaged in their recovery.
Preventing Relapse — A Key Role of Recovery Services
Since one of the greatest threats to a patient is relapse, a crucial role of recovery services is reducing the likelihood of relapse during and after treatment. Moreover, TTC provides these services to all patients in TTC programs, whether they complete treatment successfully or not. The key emphasis is to support their recovery and improve long-term outcomes.
Therefore, the RS program takes a multidimensional perspective to help patients. With such support, many patients achieve long-term recovery, avoiding the pitfalls of relapse. Indeed, relapse prevention is the primary role of Recovery Services. By highlighting triggers that lead to relapse during transitions of care, there is a greater chance of success.
